Captain Hook's sidekick is Smee, a bumbling first mate who is loyal to Hook but often tries to offer him advice and guidance. Smee is depicted as rather simple-minded and easily manipulated by Hook, but he is also kind-hearted and caring towards the other pirates and even Peter Pan's Lost Boys. In various adaptations of the story, Smee is portrayed with a round belly, a bowler hat, and a striped shirt. He is often used for comedic relief in the Peter Pan story, providing a contrast to the more sinister and cunning Captain Hook.
